Immigration Canada reminds foreign job seekers to beware of work scams

Added:2020-08-19

The Department of Immigration Canada warned that some scam groups set up scams for foreigners who want to come to Canada to work online, defrauding them of money in the name of helping them introduce jobs and handle immigration.

In order to gain the trust of the victims, this type of scam is carefully designed, with different people playing the roles of headhunting company, employer and immigration consultant. The victim was first contacted by someone who pretended to be a headhunting company, and then went through a whole set of recruitment procedures. After the recruitment process is completed, the immigration consultant comes on stage, asking for money usually at this stage.

In order to gain the trust of the victims, the scam group not only designed the website of the recruitment company, but also used the real person's name and the identity and qualifications of a legally practising immigration consultant, and claimed to be a cooperative unit of a Canadian government agency.

The Ministry of Immigration said that people who encounter this situation must check the identities of immigration consultants and headhunting companies, and check the authenticity of the location of the office and the website.
